Riddle Me This…

I still have no clue as to what I’m doing… that is… how to run, improve, maintain, fix, or manage a website.  I mean, it took me forever to understand about hosting, add-on domains, wordpress, themes, widgets, and plugins.  My buddy, Sam over at Roleplaying Pro, had to show me how to create a link – physically show me the process (I know, major, right?).  And in truth, I’m sure I’m breaking some rules, aren’t I?

Ok, sure. I’m not a tech savvy guy – most people don’t know how to set up a website, but I’ve also only ever sent two text messages, don’t have a Myspace page, can’t download a song if my life depended on it, don’t know how to back-up my computer, and have never twitted / tweeted / twittered (whatever).

However, I know that I like running Stuffer Shack, and I want it to be successful.  I want to know that people out there find it useful on occasion.  I want to improve the site so that it’s as functional as possible.  I’ve gotten some great advice from some fellow bloggers (you know who you are), and have found that gamers, in general, are pretty much a great bunch.  That’s another reason why I want the site to succeed (if that makes any sense).

So, riddle me this…

  1. How important is Facebook and Twitter with regard to this website? Would incorporating those things be beneficial?
  2. Is there anything else I’m not doing – that I should be doing?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

In Chris's opinion, the very best vices are dirt bikes, rock music, and gaming, while the very best medicine is fatherhood. If he could just learn to balance them all, he'd live forever. He's much more creative than intelligent, often wakes up belligerent, and ponders many things insignificant. Lastly, in an effort to transform his well-fed body, P90X, Roller Blades, and Food are all laughing at him. And the pain continues.

  1. Trust me you’re doing great. Stuffer Shack has always looked much better than my blog did when I first started messing around with the stuff.
As far as Facebook goes I don’t have account there and probably won’t. I still remember how myspace pretty much tumbled to the ground and am waiting for facebook to become “uncool”. I only recently started using twitter and have really enjoyed it. (#kennethhite). The good thing is it let’s me post some short little thought or whatever that may not grand enough for a whole blog post. Plus I follow some very interesting folks. And then there’s my Friday tweetfest.

  2. I love your site and I use it quite a bit for reference and for the pictures. I don’t run a blog myself because I don’t have the patience for it, but I don’t see any harm in using facebook or twitter to spread the word about your website. I think it can only help.

  3. It might be able to add some publicity, but I don’t think it would be worth it if you don’t want to deal with the extra work.

  4. Twitter would be a nice way to publicize. Do it like this.

Write up a small snippet about a new post, and then use a URL shortener to give you a Twitter-sized link that you can stick into the post. Alternatively, link your Twitter to an RSS feed….ask one of your techie buddies to help with that. That automatically publishes a Twitter post whenever you publish a post to Stuffer Shack.

  5. Thanks you guys for the help. I’m sure I’ll be setting up a Twitter account and giving it a go. I’ll think about Facebook later.
