Demigods and Corporate Espionage? Yes, please.

Olympus, IncI enjoy movies like Legion, Hackers, Underworld, and Solomon Kane, and I enjoy games like Leverage, Spycraft, Cyberpunk, and Shadowrun.  So, to see a game like Olympus, Inc. getting Kickstarted, well, just sort of makes my day… Continue reading “Demigods and Corporate Espionage? Shadow of the Demon LordSHADOW OF THE DEMON LORD

The End Is Just the Beginning

Sometimes the world needs heroes. But in the desperation of these last days, the world will take all those it can get: heroes, blackguards, madmen, and whoever else is willing to stand against the coming darkness. Will you fight the demons or will you burn it all down and dance among the ashes? Who will you become when the world dies?

a year without rainA YEAR WITHOUT RAIN

An adventure for starting characters

The killings begin as the drought afflicting the town of Asylum threatens to stretch into another year. Townsfolk, dead and dry as shed snakeskins, their bodies papery and crumbling, turn up night after night. Who or what is killing the good people of Asylum is what the player characters must discover in this adventure. The characters eventually find that it’s something living down in the well—which is the one remaining source of water for miles around.

The Slaver's LashTHE SLAVER’S LASH

An adventure for starting characters

The emperor’s death and the subsequent collapse of the Empire loosed rampaging bands of orcs into the Empire’s provinces. While many of these orcs seek the freedom long denied to them, others see opportunity for vengeance, wealth, and power. In this adventure, a band of orc slavers has moved into the Northern Reach, plundering frontier towns for slaves to sell or use for sport. When the adventure opens, the characters are among the captives, marching toward a life in chains. The adventure ends when the characters escape captivity and reach one of the few outposts of civilization on the frontier.

 The God BelowTHE GOD BELOW

An adventure for novice characters

Strange gods aren’t unusual in the darkness cast by the shadow of the Demon Lord. New faiths appear regularly. Most fade away on their own, or, in the most repugnant cases, their adherents are hunted and murdered by the good folk they offended or endangered.

The God Below is an adventure for a group of novice characters. In it, the characters investigate the temple of a newly emerged religion to determine whether the god Duvia is a benevolent deity or a threat to safety and the existing order. The characters complete the adventure when they destroy the horror unearthed in the temple’s bowels.

I especially enjoyed this game through its development, and I’m sure you’ll love playing it (ok, I imagine you will).  The bundle cost is $9.95, Saving over $16 (that’s like, 62% off, or something, I think).  Anyway, I believe it’s available for a limited time… So get it now.

Free RPG Day Today!

Today is Free RPG Day!

freelogo2015-350x332Established in 2007, Free RPG Day works with participating hobby game retailers and RPG publishers to bring new and exclusive RPG quickstart rules and adventure modules into the hands of gamers.

This year, I’ll be watching for four items in particular:

We Be Goblins Free! by Paizo: This is the third instalment in the We Be Goblins! series. Though I have to admit I’m not a fan of Pathfinder, Paizo produces some great materials and this series is definitely one of them. I’ve run many sessions of this series and we’ve always had a great time playing at mischievous goblins. I’m looking forward to running my groups through another goblin misadventure.

Night’s Black Agents RPG / 13th Age Flipbook by Pelgrane Press: Again, though I’m not playing 13th Age, it has some great materials and I’m looking forward to seeing this offering, but more importantly, I really like Night’s Black Agents where you play The Bourne Identity meets vampires. I backed the Dracula Dossier Kickstarter for the epic Night’s Black Agents campaign coming soon and this might be a good way to try out the setting with my group.

You Iz Kobolds?! by 9th Level Games: I missed the Kickstarter for this game when it debuted, maybe because I’m stuck on playing goblins instead, but this looks like a fun game and this is a great way to check it out to see if it’s something I want to run in the future.

DCC RPG DM Screen by Goodman Games: There’s a bit of a theme here, but again, I don’t play DCC, but I like their products. I like to collect good DM screens that I can use for whatever game, but I’ve also tried out DCC as a player and it was a lot of fun, so this could get some use for running an actual DCC game.

As a special mention, the Cosmic Patrol QuickStart by Catalyst Games is also being offered, but that’s one that I’ve already picked up and I haven’t gotten to play it yet, but it looks like a lot of fun too and you might want to check out.

Other offerings include a Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Pack, Syrinscape Free Sound Gift Cards, Munchkin Bookmarks from Steve Jackson Games, Shadowrun/Battletech QuickStart Flipbooks, Into the Dragon’s Maw Adventure Module by Goodman Games, Valiant Universe RPG QuickStart, Commemerative Dive, Atlantis RPG Quickstart, Hellas RPG Kickstart, Silver Sword 1000 Coin, a Castles & Crusades Adventure, Through the Breach RPG QuickStart and a Dice Tray.

As you can see, there’s a lot for everyone, so definitely make a point of supporting Free RPG Day in your community. Check out the retailer locator to find a participating store near you. Quantities are limited though, so try to get there early if you’re looking for something in particular.

It’s also suggested that while these are free offerings that you also support your friendly local game store by making a purchase when you visit, so please keep that in mind when you make the trip.

Happy hunting for your picks!

Condition Markers are here!

Is your player character Blinded and Exhausted? Is the bad guy Nauseated? Keep track easily with our new Condition Markers!

Condition Markers

For the last few years, Our Mini Counters and Mini Markers have done pretty well, and I’m always getting compliments, praise, and thanks for selling them.  Well, an awesome returning customer asked if I could put together markers that would indicate conditions, and so I gave it a shot.  Pretty sure they turned out fantastically – what do you think?

Our Condition Markers will support just about any game… Dazed,  Prone, Slowed, Shaken, Stunned, Wounded, and many more are available (really, any condition).

CM CaseThese markers are 3/8 inch across (only slightly bigger than our Mini Counters), so they still fit nicely on your figures.  They use sticky tack to easily stick to your minis, and (of course) come in a convenient and protective case.  There’s even a laminated cheat-sheet.

The one thing that I love most about these is that they are so easy to use, effective at the table, and you can get a set for ANY game.  Ok, that’s three things I love about them.

I honestly don’t know why we didn’t put these together sooner – but I’m definitely glad they’re here now.  Many thanks to John Patala for helping make this happen.

Dwarven Battle Ram

We raised $140… for the “Are you my Mummy” Vijay Fundraiser!

VijayA few weeks ago one of our readers (and two-time contributor) Vijay had a sudden medical scare.  He has since started his treatment and recovery, and seems to be doing better.  Well, we decided to start a little fundraiser to help lift his spirits.  Between a donation from the RPG blog 20ft Radius and all the profits from our store for the month of April, we ended up raising $140.  We hope that helps with one of his copays, perhaps parking, and of course some gaming stuff!

Here’s Vijay:

“I would like to personally thank everyone who donated to my recovery. Unfortunately, because this is the internet, I’m going to have to settle for thanking you in text. Chemotherapy certainly deserves its reputation as a harrowing, difficult experience; but knowing that there are people who will occasionally go out of their way to help someone in need helps take the edge off of it. I’d especially like to thank Chris, who gave up the profits from the site to help someone he’s never met in person. His actions reveal a level of kindness and human decency that’s scarce in our mostly selfish, bottom-line-driven society. From the stygian depths of my heart, I thank you all.”

You’re welcome, Vijay, and thank you.
